Well....another 2 weeks, another park. Our stay in Lumberton went okay. Lumberton, NC is a very heavily hit area and it was quite challenging to make the required sales. The park owners (Gerry and Betsy) were wonderful, sweet people. They have owned Sleepy Bear's for over 20 years. But Terry did his magic again and sold the required ads.
We are now very happy to be in Longs, SC....just a few miles from Myrtle Beach. It was a quick and easy drive (about an hour) We arrived and were set up by 1:30pm on Sunday. This park....Willow Tree (Willow Tree)....is absolutely amazing. By far the nicest yet. We are in awe. It's nicer than just about any park we've stayed at....and I am including state parks and Army Corp parks. The sites are wooded and VERY spacious, not to mention staggered. So even when they are full (which they were this weekend), you don't feel the least bit crowded. They are all fully paved with enormous concrete patios complete with fire rings, picnic tables and a brand new grill.
Some of the lakeside sites even have hot tubs (we didn't get that lucky). There is also a white sand beach on the lake and a really nice free-form pool area. They rent golf carts and it seemed like everyone (except us) were cruising about in golf carts this weekend. They also rent bicycles, canoes and paddleboats. Being a 3 day weekend, there were tons of kids riding around on their bikes, playing on the playground, in the pool and games of hide-and-go-seek. The weather has cooperated and we've spent both of our evenings outside enjoying the park. There is a great trail all around the lake complete with benches, bridges and even swings to stop and enjoy the view. Needless to say, Barklee is getting lots of long walks and is quite the happy camper (sorry).
Went down to Myrtle Beach yesterday. We'd heard such great things about it....and yeah, it's nice. But basically your typical beach town. We walked the beach and the boardwalk, stopped for boardwalk fries, hit a few tourist shops and wandered a bit. There are some beautiful resorts and TONS of great eateries and shops. On the way back, we found a little bar overlooking the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway) drank a few beers, munched on their free peanuts and watched all the boat traffic go by from their deck. As we were leaving, we wandered over to the attached shopping center and found some great shops and bought the required assortment of salt water taffy. Then back to "the home" and a great evening under the awning sipping some non-gin-martini-like drinks.
This morning we woke up to a steady gentle rain. The park has almost cleared out with only a handful of other RV's in our view.
As you can probably tell, we are really enjoying this new lifestyle. We weren't sure what to expect....but....so far.....(fingers crossed)....it has worked out well. We do miss all of you, the kids...and Texas in general. But we are meeting lots of great people, seeing some beautiful places and making the most of what we have. Tom has booked us though mid-December and has promised to take us back out again just after New Year's.
