OK....if it's Monday, it must be North Carolina? Or Virginia? Wait.....where are we?
Okaaaaaaay.....we are in Lumberton, North Carolina at our 4th park....Sleepy Bear's RV Resort (Sleepy Bears). Arrived yesterday afternoon to a cute little park. We are just off I-95 (again), but have a great site.
All the sites here are paved and the grounds are nicely manicured with lots of trees and flowers. It's not as wooded as the park in Ashland, but very well kept. The owners (Gerry, Betsy and their daughter Melanie) are VERY friendly and helpful. Melanie checked us in and escorted us to our site yesterday afternoon. Then Gerry and Betsy came by last evening and visited for about an hour. They have owned this park since the beginning of time and really know how to run it. Terry met with them this morning and it looks like they are going to be very helpful and great to work with.
Lumberton is not a bad place. It's in southern NC...about 15 miles from the SC border. We ran up to DQ last night and saw a little of the town. It's been hit pretty hard with the economy, so we are thinking this could be another challenge. We'll see....too soon to tell.
Speaking of Ashland....things there went very well. The weather was really nice for the duration of our visits and we all spent many evenings outside under the awning and walking the park....even met a few of our neighbors and the staff.
Terry sold more ads than they'd ever had and I think both the park and Tom were (again) very pleased with his efforts.
We did manage a night out before we left. Went up to one of Terry's advertiser's....Ashland Coffee and Tea. The name is very misleading. It's a little bistro that turns into a (very Austin-like) live music venue in the evenings. It was a great evening with a lot of interaction between the stage and audience (aka....us). Turns out the guy was from Richmond and basically knew everybody in the audience except...us. So he zeroed right in on us and there was bantering back and forth all evening. It was a blast!
Barklee is doing well and seems to have adapted to the full-timing lifestyle. As always, he was quick to pick out patterns and now knows when it's time to move on. He claims his spot (in the entryway) as soon as we start loading up....and won't move. We're almost to the point where we have to physically move him when we make a rest stop because he is blocking the door. But once we stop, he relaxes and can't wait to get outside. He LOVED Ashland....and spent most days outside enjoying the cool spring weather. There was a pack of cats there ....not to mention squirrels (who got into my trash several times and were very lucky Barklee was tied up) that kept him constantly entertained.
Stay tuned!
