Morganton to Franklin, NC

Happy Labor Day!  Hope everyone enjoyed their (much deserved) 3 day weekend.  We certainly did.  We arrived at our new park, Great Outdoors RV Resort yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.  This is another highlight.  It's a beautiful park, only a couple years old, with sites cascading down a mountain, nicely spaced out with incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We got a great site with a view of the mountains and right next to the office -

And if that weren't enough, fall has arrived here and the weather is perfect.  We are finally able to turn off the AC and open all the windows.  The days are warm (not hot) and sunny and the nights are cool.  It got down to 47 degrees last night.....perfect snuggle weather.  We love sleeping with the windows open as the crickets chirp us to sleep!

Our stay in Morganton went very well.  From a business perspective, after several dismal park endeavors, almost all the advertisers at Steele Creek renewed and Terry found replacements for the few that didn't.  The weather cooperated for the most part and so my 2 weeks working from the back seat of the car wasn't too bad.  And since Terry had so many renewals....there wasn't as much need to drive all over town.

From a park perspective, it also went well.  Steele Creek was a great park....much more a campground than a park actually.  Most of the people there were camping for the weekend....it was very quiet during the week.  But for Labor Day weekend....it was jammed packed.  We had to move on Thursday (Joey mistakenly rented our site) but he moved us to an even better site.  Hard to explain, but basically we were at the edge of the back section with a huge meadow in front of us.

All the kids from that section of the park used that meadow to play kick ball, ride their bikes, etc.  The weather was cool enough so we built campfires Friday and Saturday nights, opened a bottle of wine, sat back and enjoyed our front row seats to all the festivities.

After months of hot, humid weather, it felt so good to "camp" again.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, we drove up to Linville Falls.  We had an advertiser up there and had passed by it several times.  This time we decided to stop and hike down.  Its about a 1/2 mile hike straight down the mountain -

but well worth the effort.  It's actually a series of falls (2 upper and 1 lower)

with beautiful, crystal clear pools and incredible white water in between -

Then...Sunday morning we headed out.  It was a 2.5 hour drive over to Franklin....our 3rd park (and final) in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
