Franklin, NC to Ft. Myers, FL

After six weeks and three consecutive parks in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are now in the flatlands of sunny south Florida. What a change!

We are now at Shady Acres. It's a huge park (over 300 sites) and pretty nice. It's a mix of transients and permanents. It's your typical Florida park ….with a decent (heated) pool, lots of palm trees, large concrete patios, shuffleboard courts, a pond, etc. As expected, it's pretty warm...but only in the 80's during the day and still cool enough to sit outside in the evening. The manager (Velvet) is a blast...she met us when we pulled in yesterday and escorted us to our site. She even let us choose the site we wanted....a luxury we've never had in any of our parks.....

The high season doesn't start for another month, so it's pretty empty here right now.

Since we just arrived yesterday afternoon, we really haven't seen much yet. So more on that later.

Our stay at Great Outdoors was (again) good and bad. On the business side....pretty dismal. But the park was very nice (that's us down the hill from the pool) ....

with beautiful vistas....

.....and the weather was wonderful....with days in the mid 70's and nights in the 50's. We are missing that cool weather right now.
The trip down was uneventful. The first part was pretty scenic ….

…..but that only lasted an hour or so. We spent the night in Valdosta, GA (just over the border from Florida) in a KOA. It was a pretty park but a bit disappointing....they gave us a rather cramped site ….

…..and the gnats kept us indoors. We tried to sit outside and lasted long enough to meet the very demanding resident geese (who apparently think everyone must feed them)....

….but after an hour, we admitted defeat to the gnats and went inside. Cindy heated up some leftover spaghetti (one of Terry's favs), opened a bottle of wine and enjoyed a nice dinner. Sunday morning we got an early start and landed here about 3:00pm. Got set up in time to enjoy happy hour and grilled hamburgers on our patio. We are looking forward to a visit from Mom, Dad, Alma and even Aunt Jo this weekend!
